Flu Vaccinations 2020-21 Posted on 17 Sep 2020

Flu Vaccinations 2020

Please note that this year we have had to adapt our flu clinics since we need to ensure social distancing and Coronavirus infection control measures are in place.

As always, we follow the NHS Guidelines regarding who is considered "at-risk" and thus elgible to receive a free flu vaccination. The full list is available on the NHS.uk website here:

Who should have the flu vaccine?

We are expecting our flu vaccines to arrive in early-mid September and we will contact patients directly to arrange a suitable appointment time. Please do not come to the surgery for a flu vaccination unless we have contacted you.

As advised by NHS England, we will be prioritising flu vaccinations in this order during September and October 2020:

  1. Patients over the age of 65
  2. Patients aged between 6 months and 64 years old who meet the "at-risk" criteria as noted on the nhs.uk website in the link above
  3. Children aged 2-3 years old
  4. Pregnant women

All other patients aged between 50-64 years old who are not in the "at-risk" category will be offered a free flu vaccination in November and December 2020, providing there is sufficient supply of the vaccines in stock. This is to ensure that those most at-risk receive the vaccination first.

We ask that you bear with us during what will certainly be our most challenging flu vaccination programme ever for a host of reasons. Please note that we are reliant upon our suppliers delivering the vaccines to us on time as well as our deliveries being split over multiple dates. We must also ensure that we have adequate stocks of PPE to adhere to infection control guidelines.

As noted previously, we will contact eligible patients directly as soon as we are able to offer the vaccination.
